Kōmako —

Naming, Brand Strategy and Creative Direction
Logo Suite

My creative process started with the naming, which takes inspiration from the native Kōmako (bell bird) known for its woven nests made from fibres and feathers. The name expresses the brand’s appreciation for natural fibres and the handcrafted, as well as the connection to quality homeware design.
A customised sans serif typeface was crafted to create an organic, high end, yet minimalistic brand identity that illustrates the materiality of natural fibres and woven features demonstrating the Kōmako bird’s homemaking habits.
Four colours have been strategically selected to create the direction of Kōmako. Olive and Slate Grey ~ Hues of the New Zealand Bellbird’s feathers; Stone ~ Washed natural hue, associating the brand with sustainability and natural dyed linens; Cream ~ lighter natural hue to create contrast.
With a complete logo suite, Kōmako can use these flexibly on a variety of applications such as product tags, labels, social platforms and printed matter.
